The Pocono Pub, known for years as the Tanglewood bar, was originally built by the Brace family in 1923. For 30 years (1950s to
early 1980s) it was owned and operated by Johnny Recker, who rented small cabins and even featured a live bear at one time.
Local businessman Rick DeFino bought the Pub in 1988. Then, in 1991, a major fire, caused by an electrical problem on the
second floor, destroyed the old building. The remains of the building were donated to the Stroud Township Fire Company for a
practice burn, and the DeFinos re-opened the Pub on Friday, February 7, 1992.
"We have tried to maintain an old-time theme", said DeFino. Patrons will notice a 110-year old cherry bar and many old
advertising signs that DeFino and his wife Sharon have found to keep with the old-time theme.
The Pub is known for its "homey" feel, delicious food, and great entertainment and fun.
